Services
The Hydrographic Institute supports the Ship Navigation Service.
Technical support
- Technical audit of organizational procedures, nautical instruments, and documents to enhance safety or support maritime accident analysis.
- Steering and maneuvering trials to produce speed/turning curves and a manual detailing turning radii, stopping distances, and response times for different speeds, engine regimes, and rudder angles.
The International Maritime Organisation shall provide that certain types of vessels shall carry out a set of government and maneuver tests to assess their ability to turn, dynamic stability and stopping.
Navigation Instruments
- Calibration, repair, and certification of magnetic compasses, verified on a test bench in accordance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Technical Specifications.
- Compensation of magnetic compasses while underway, with a view to minimizing the effects of the ship’s own magnetism on the compasses. Certification of the magnetic compasses is recommended after each repair. Compensation should be carried out every three years or whenever deviations exceed 3 degrees.
Meteorological Instruments
- It ensures the necessary tasks for the calibration of meteorological instruments such as barometers, barometers, thermometers, psychrometers and anemometers.
Navigation Headlights
- Verification and certification of shipboard navigation lights in accordance with the technical specifications of the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs).
