The Hydrographic Institute has its headquarters at the Convento das Trinas do Mocambo, located between the historic districts of Santos and Lapa, in Lisbon.
In this building work the governing bodies, the technical bodies (Division of Navigation, Division of Hydrography, Division of Oceanography, Division of Marine Geology, Division of Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment and Office of Geographical Information Systems), the documentation services, financial and logistical support, the School of Hydrography and Oceanography, and the laboratories of Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment and Sedimentology.
Hydrographic base Vice Admiral Sarmento Gouveia
Located on the left bank of the Coina River, in the municipality of Seixal, it is part of the Vice Admiral Sarmento Gouveia Hydrographic Brigade, the Maritime Instrumentation Center (CIM) and a heliport. As a result of the CIM's specific mission, the Calibration Laboratory, the storage panels of the multiple and various scientific equipment of the IH, the electronics, electricity, precision mechanics, inspection and calibration workshops of buoys, internal combustion engines, mechanical sawmills, carpentry, as well as the craft service are also located in the Azinheira Hydrographic Base.
