Data Infrastructure

The development of the NODC-PT is a joint action of the Hydrographic Institute (HI) and the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), in order to establish a central point of access to national oceanographic data.

The National Oceanographic Data Centre Portugal (NODC-EN) is a spatial data infrastructure (IDE) dedicated to the management of marine geospatial data, belonging to a global network of National oceanographic data centres, coordinated by the programme International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) Intergovernment Oceanographic Commission (IOC) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

This infrastructure aims to be a central point of access to the marine data of Portugal, whose management is shared by the Hydrographic Institute (IH) and the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, I. P. (IPMA), under the coordination of the Portuguese Committee for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (CP-COI).

The NODC-EN was recognized as a action ed Ocean Decadewithin the framework of Challenge 8 - Create a digital representation of the ocean.
