World Hydrography Day celebrated at the IH
Today at the Hydrographic Institute (HI) a thematic session commemorating World Hydrography Day took place. This day, referenced on June 21, has as its motto, in 2019, “The water information, engine of knowledge of the marine environment”.
In a first panel, hydrographers, technicians and researchers presented interesting examples of the work done in the IH on the subject.
In a second panel, a group of guests from the State, academia and industry addressed the use of hydrographic information in their activities. This panel also presented the contribution of Hydrography to maritime operations, be they the Navy or the National Maritime Authority.
The session reinforced the crucial role of Hydrographic Information in the creation of Knowledge, without which it is not possible to support all activities related to the marine environment.
Recalling the words of the current Secretary-General of the International Hydrographic Organization “Hydrographic information driving marine knowledge helps us remember that hydrography touches our everyday lives”
