Who Makes IH | Lieutenant Sofia Henriques

Behind everything we do, there are people.
“Who Makes IH” is the feature that, each month, highlights the staff who make the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute.

Born on 16 December 1988, Lieutenant Sofia Henriques began her career in the Armed Forces in 2015, in the Army, where she served at the Army Geospatial Information Centre (CIGeoE) under a fixed-term contract. During this period, she worked in the fields of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. In 2018, she transferred to the Navy, also under a fixed-term contract, and was assigned to the Maritime Geospatial, Meteorological and Oceanographic Centre (CGEOMETOC), within the Geospatial Information Section. In 2020, she joined the Navy’s Permanent Staff, and in 2022, she assumed the position of Head of the Geospatial Information Section, a role she currently performs within the Geospatial and Operational Support Division (DGAO).

As Head of the Section, she coordinates the team, oversees the production, integration, and dissemination of geospatial information, and ensures the development of essential products to support decision-making and the various missions and tasks of the Portuguese Navy.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing the accordion — an instrument she has played since the age of seven —, practising crossfit, reading, and walking her dogs, Jacky and Balu.
