Visit of the Maritime Scouts of the National Listening Corps to the IH

The Hydrographic Institute (HI) received, on 30 and 31 July 2018, the visit of a group of Maritime Scouts of the National Listening Corps, accompanied by their monitors.

On July 30, the Maritime Scouts watched the exhibition of the institutional film and the presentations on the tides, the waters and oceanic circulation, the hydrography - as a nautical letter is made and how it is used, the issue of the safety of navigation and seabeds. There was also a practical lesson where they could apply the knowledge acquired on how to chart a route in a nautical chart.

The visit to the IH, in Lisbon, ended with a passage through the laboratories of the Divisions of Marine Geology and Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment, and the exhibition “Map the Portuguese Sea”.

On July 31, the Maritime Scouts visited the IH facilities in Seixal, especially the Maritime Instrumentation Center and the Hydrographic Brigade.

The visit to the IH allowed the group of Maritime Scouts a thorough knowledge of the work carried out in this institution and the importance of knowing the sea.
