Visit to the Academies of Lisbon Sciences and Science and Technology Hassan II

The Hydrographic Institute (IH) received, on 3 May 2016, a group of representatives from the Lisbon Academy of Sciences and Hassan II Academy in Morocco, under the Luso-Marocain Seminary, through bilateral cooperation between these two academies.

At the beginning of the visit, the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear Admiral Coelho Candido, gave a few words of welcome to visitors. This was followed by the exhibition of the institutional film and a presentation by the Technical Director, with the aim of providing a better knowledge of the organization, the means and activities related to the sciences and research at sea, at national and international level.

The visit continued with a passage through the divisions of the Technical Directorate, which ended with a working meeting between the visitors and representatives of this institute, with a view to identifying institutional cooperation possibilities for the study of the marine environment.

After lunch, participants traveled to the Lisbon Naval Base, Alfeite, for a visit to a hydrographic ship – the NRP Auriga.

Note: The NRP Auriga is a sea-research hydrographic vessel which carries out, within the framework of the Navy’s missions, activities related to marine sciences and techniques, with a view to their application in the military area, in scientific projects and in the protection of the marine environment.
