Visit of yours Your Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic as part of the celebrations of the 700 years of the Navy.
On December 5, 2017, the Hydrographic Institute (IH) received the visit of its Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Prof. Doctor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, as part of the 700th anniversary celebrations of the Navy.
On arrival, the Head of State was received by the Minister of National Defense, José Azeredo Lopes, the Chief of Staff of the Navy and National Maritime Authority, Admiral António Silva Ribeiro, and the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear Admiral António Coelho Cândido.
The visit began at the Auditorium with the intervention of the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, to which followed the exhibition of the new institutional film and two presentations: the first given by Commander Alves Gaspar alluding to the theme “Cartography in the early times of the Navy” and the second, delivered by the Technical Director of the IH, Commander Mesquita Onofre, on the cartography currently developed by the IH, namely in the framework of the projects: “Mapar o Mar Português”, “Via navigável do Douro” and “Via navigável do Guadiana”.
The visit continued to the exhibition hall "Cartography in the 700 years of the Navy", followed by the Navy's Marine Meteorological and Oceanographic Center (CMETOC), where a presentation was made by the Chief of the Center, Lieutenant Lent of Santos, on the capacity to develop products and systems to support operational decision-making in support of civil emergency.
At the end of the visit, His Excellency the President of the Portuguese Republic, Prof. Doctor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa signed the Book of Honor and received the institutional offer allusive to the celebrations.
