Visit by the Delegation of the Port Maritime Institute of the Republic of Guinea Bissau

From 17 to 20 November 2014, at the Hydrographic Institute (HI), the work visit of a delegation of the Port Maritime Institute (IMP) of Guinea Bissau, consisting of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Commander Carlos da Silva, the 1st vowel of the Board of Directors, Joaquim Amaro Mustaffe and the 2nd vowel of the Board of Directors, Jocias Valdemar Forbes Teixeira.

This visit took place following the contact between Guinea-Bissau and Portugal delegations during the 5th Extraordinary International Hydrographic Conference held in Monaco from 6 to 10 October 2014.

During the period of the visit, the delegation went through the divisions of the Technical Directorate – namely Hydrography, Navigation, Oceanography, Technical-Scientific Data Center, Marine Geology laboratories, Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment, the School of Hydrography and Oceanography, the Hydrographic Base, the Maritime Instrumentation Center and the Hydrographic Brigade, where the ongoing activities and the available capabilities and means that contribute to scientific and technological development linked to the sea were presented.

The delegation also visited the Head of Lights, the Shipwreck Help Institute, and the NRP D. Carlos I, where they learned about their functional structures, means and competences, within the sphere of responsibility of each of their missions.

The visit ended with a final joint working meeting between the representatives of the Hydrographic Institute and the Port Maritime Institute of Guinea Bissau, and the signing of the Honor Book by the President of this institute, Commander Carlos da Silva, where he took advantage to thank the proportionate visit and interest in future institutional cooperation.

The main objective of this visit was to establish the bases of a cooperation plan related to training, training and capacity building in the area of Hydrography, hydrographic surveys, production and cartographic update.
