Training in Maritime Safety Information by the Hydrographic Institute
The first training in Maritime Safety Information (MSI – Maritime Safety Information) was held in December by the Navigation Division of the Hydrographic Institute (HI) by videoconferencing to the National Maritime Agency of Angola.
The IH, as the entity responsible for the dissemination of Maritime Safety Information and for the coordination of the NAVTEX service at national level, is also the technical navigation authority for the Navy, ensuring national coordination and the dissemination of warnings to navigation and warnings to navigators, with the task in this area promoting actions within the framework of Navigation Security.
The training included a total of 45 participants from various Angolan entities, including the Maritime and Personnel Safety Directorate of the Sea, Hydrography, Oceanography and Scientific Research and the Capitanias of Cabinda, Soyo, Luanda, Amboim, Lobito and Namibe ports. During the 12 training periods, topics related to Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), MSI Dissemination Services, Navigation Warnings, Browser Warnings, Seam Balancing and Information and Nautical Cartography were addressed.
Maritime Safety Information is vital for the entire maritime community and its knowledge and dissemination at global level is strongly recommended by the World Maritime Organization.
