Top Hydrographic Survey of the Azores - 2022

The Hydrographic Brigade continues on mission in the Azores. This is the account of one of our:

“Brigadier”

1. Military belonging to the Hydrographic Brigade;
2. He who probes, tops, comes sun, rain or sea;
3. a person capable of creating contraptions in short periods of time so that high precision work can be performed;
4. That is effective, efficient and skilled in solving complicated or unexpected situations = dispatched, expedited.

Our brigadiers arrived six days ago on Third Island after completing the hydrographic survey in Faial. After 15 days of field work and 7 hours of travel between islands, the team feels a sense of mission accomplished.

Now, with a smaller team with the presence of the students of the Specialization Course in Hydrography and Oceanography, we follow our top-hydrographic survey on Terceira Island.

The work aims to obtain batimetric data around the coastal edge of the third country and its main ports. These data will be used for maritime spatial planning in the Azores as well as for updating the existing nautical charts.
