Topographic surveys in the Autonomous Region of the Azores

The Hydrographic Brigade (BH) is conducting top-hydrographic surveys (LTH) in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, having started work with the LTH of the port of Ponta Delgada, in the Island of São Miguel. The hydrographic work will be carried out on board the boat “Gaivota”, which was transported to the Azores archipelago on the NRP ship D. Carlos I, who is on mission in this Autonomous Region.

It is also planned to perform LTH in the ports of Vila Franca do Campo, Praia da Vitória and a geometric leveling in Angra do Heroísmo, in order to verify the batimetric evolution and collect data for cartographic update, thus contributing to the safety of navigation.

These works provide an excellent learning opportunity for trainees of the Specialization Course of Sergeants in Hydrography, who accompany and participate in the work to be carried out.

It is also expected to carry out hydrographic surveys in collaboration with the Center for Research in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources of the University of the Azores, through the realization of a work focused on the area off Monasteries, in the Island of S. Miguel.

Due to the collaboration between the Hydrographic Institute and the University of the Azores, on June 28, an intern of Spanish nationality of this University followed the work carried out by BH.
