Commander Santos Fernandes is the new head of the Oceanography Division.

On September 7, 2018, the post of Head of the Oceanography Division of the Technical Directorate of the Hydrographic Institute was delivered. Commander Santos Martinho, after 8 years ahead of the Division, left the leadership to meet a new challenge, perform the functions of Technical Director of Military Technical Cooperation in São Tomé and Príncipe.

Commander Carlos Santos Fernandes, an officer with much experience in the area, 18 years ago at the Hydrographic Institute, was the officer chosen to head the Oceanography Division.  

The Captain-de-Fragata hydrographer engineer Carlos Santos Fernandes has a master's degree in oceanography at the Naval Postgraduate School, between 2003-2005, and has led several oceanographic missions, headed several sections, namely the Oceanographic Engineering section and the Oceanography Operational section.
