Posse take of the Chief of the Hydrographic Brigade No. 1

The ceremony of the inauguration of the current Head of the Hydrographic Brigade No. 1, Fragnate Captain Ricardo Cordeiro de Almeida, in place of Fragnate Captain Delgado Vicente, was held on 13 January 2017, and was chaired by the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute (IH), Rear Admiral Coelho Candido, in the presence of the garrison of the Hydrographic Brigade, and their military and civilian IH.

CFR Cordeiro de Almeida, from the Navy, specializing in Hydrography, with a master's degree in Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, Canada, has worked in the IH.201 Hydrography Division for the last years.

Captain Delgado Vicente headed the Hydrographic Brigade for more than four years, especially in the last year, for the top-hydrographic surveys on the Navigable Via in the Douro River, the hydrographic surveys in Cape Verde and the Azores Archipelago. As part of the activities of the Rapid Intervention Hydrographic Team, he coordinated several operations, in emergency situations and in exercises.

In the context of the pedagogical component, it is highlighted the monitoring of the traineeships of officers and sergeants of specialization courses in hydrography.
In his speech, the Director General emphasized the capacity and readiness of the Hydrographic Brigade, being of utmost importance for sea science at the service of the Navy and the country.

The Hydrographic Brigade carries out work on the sea and on land in the areas of Hydrography, Oceanography and Topography, with a view to collecting information, or providing support for other activities at sea.
