Start of CBONDEX mission

A joint IH and PLOCAN team launched yesterday, April 5th, southwest of Sesimbra, aboard the NRP Andromeda, a glider (self-contained glider vehicle without proper propulsion) under the international Jerico-S3 project.

Over the next month, this PLOCAN glier will carry out the CBONDEX mission, which takes advantage of the Transnational Access (TA) mechanism of the JERICO-S3 project, and is expected to cover about 350 nautical miles and collect oceanographic information in the first 1000m of the oceanic water column.

The data collected will allow progress in current understanding of the nature and impacts of the main processes of interaction between the coastal ocean and the open ocean, which occur off the Portuguese western coast.
