Standardization of the Names of the Forms/Feeds of the Submarine Relief, a legacy in Portuguese

Portugal through the Hydrographic Institute and Brazil through the Board of Hydrography and Navigation of the Brazilian Navy, have gathered efforts to normalize procedures, directives, and any other issues related to Hydrography. This time, they joined in the translation of a reference publication by the International Hydrographic Organization. This publication, called B-6, and under the name “Padronization of the Names of the Submarine Relief Forms/Foots” aims to define directives, terminology and forms for proposals for names of the subsea relief, proposals that can be made by any individual beyond the Territorial Sea, as the name of mountains or underwater cannons.

Names, after being evaluated and approved, can be viewed in:

The joint effort of Portugal and Brazil to normalize terminology for the entire Lusophone community is to highlight being an example of promoting Portuguese language and reducing distances in the way that technically certain characteristics of the marine background are designated.
