IPQ representatives visit the Hydrographic Institute

The Hydrographic Institute (IH) received on Tuesday, March 13, the visit of three representatives of the Portuguese Institute of Quality (IPQ): Dr. Isabel Godinho - Director of the Metrology Department, Dr. João Alves and Sousa - Director of the National Metrology Laboratory, and Dr. Florbela Dias - Head of the Reference Gas Laboratory.

After welcoming Commander Mesquita Onofre, Technical Director of the IH, the IPQ elements passed through the Technical Directorate, where they were able to exchange information about the existing capabilities in the areas of Hydrography, Navigation, Oceanography, Geographic Information Systems, Geology and Marine Chemistry.

This visit took place following a proposal by the IH to be Designated Laboratory (ID) to determine parameters in the area of marine inorganic chemistry and the IPQ to consider that the IH is in a position to be indicated as an ID in the area of the determination of silica and mercury parameters in the formal proposal to be submitted by the IPQ to the International Committee of Weights and Measurements (IPC) of BIPM.

The Hydrographic Institute has a Quality Management System implemented, according to the EN ISO/IEC 17025 regulatory framework, and is accredited by IPAC in the area of marine testing (certified L0490) and calibration of hydro-oceanographic sensors (certified M091).
