Recognition of the top-hydrographic survey area in Sines port

The Hydrographic Institute will carry out top-hydrographic surveys in the port of Sines as part of a multi-annual and multidisciplinary monitoring campaign.

It is a project with an expected duration of 5 years, monitoring the effects of the intervention/extension of maritime structures on the evolution of the adjacent coastal zone.

In this sense, in order to prepare this campaign, with the beginning scheduled for the beginning of March 2019, the area of work was recognized on February 13, 2019 in the port of Sines.

Recognition is a process that allows us to verify in the work area the logistical facilities such as team housing, access to the interior of the port of Sines, placement of the means on the ground: vessels and vehicles, contacts with local entities: Capitania de Sines and the Administration of the Ports of Sines and the Algarve (APS).

It is also during the recognition that the most technical aspects such as the best location for the reference station are verified to support the positioning of the survey vessels and the topography, the location of the tidegraphs, dangers to be taken into account and challenges such as the thermal plume that occurs in the area of water polling that serves as cooling to the thermoelectric power station.
