Depression FIEN - State of the Sea on the West Coast of Continental Portugal

The MONIZEE network of the Hydrographic Institute worsened the state of the sea on the west coast of Continental Portugal on 17 and 18 January 2023, with the passage of depression FIEN.

The coastal leixões buoy, located about 20 kilometres from the coast, registered a maximum height (Hmax) of 13.9 metres and a significant height (Hm0) of 8.18 meters, on January 18 at 01:25, with peak periods between 12 and 16 seconds and northwest direction. The oceanic Nazaré buoy, located about 27 kilometres from the coast of Peniche, recorded a maximum height of 12.13 meters and a significant height of 8.07 meters.
