SOCO-DRONE Project - Public Flight Simulation

In the framework of the SOCO-DRONE (Drones-based Coastal and Oceanic Observation System) project, a Public Flight Simulation in Auditorium took place at the Hydrographic Institute (HI), on 14 November 2016, where, in addition to the Director-General of the IH, Rear Admiral Coelho Candido, the Ambassador of Norway, Anders Erdal, representatives of the National Aeronautics Authority, the Directorate-General of the Maritime Authority, the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy, the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services, the Institute for Conservation of Nature and Forests, the Naval Research Centre, as well as elements involved in the study, research and conservation of the ocean, were present at the Hydrographic Institute (IH).

The SOCO-DRONE Project is a partnership between UAVISION, Deimos Engenharia and the Hydrographic Institute, supported by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants). The final objective is to carry out a cooperative flight of two unmanned air systems, between Sagres and the Gorringe Bank, to monitor human activities and the marine environment.

In its role as scientific advisor, the IH is responsible for the preparation of products, of meteo-oceanographic forecast for test flights and for the final mission, products that have been used in simulations carried out jointly by the partners of the Project.
