Project GUAD20 - Guadiana: Navigable Natural Heritage

It took place on November 7, at the Pomarão, the 2nd meeting of partners of the GUAD20 - Guadiana project: Navigable Natural Heritage.

The GUAD20 project has been running since 2017 with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Portugal-Spain Transboundary Cooperation Operational Programme (POTEP INTERREG V-A 2014-2020), and in addition to the Hydrographic Institute (IH) as partners, the Public Agency of Puertos de Andalucía (Promoting Entity) and the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Security and Maritime Services (DGRM).

The GUAD20 aims to rehabilitate the navigability of the Guadiana river in the international section between Vila Real de Santo António and Pomarão, as well as the rehabilitation of some port infrastructures.

Under this project the IH is the entity responsible for the production of the official hydrographic cartography of the Guadiana Navigable Way between Vila Real de Santo António and Pomarão.

The main objectives of the meeting were the presentation of the project's situation and the realization of a technical visit that included a navigation on the Guadiana river to observe the new maritime marking of the navigable channel between Alcoutim and Pomarão, currently in the process of completion.
