Participation of OH in the European standards intercomparison workshop
Participation of the IH in the workshop to intermatch European standards for the determination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and organochlorinated pesticides
On 11 March, the Hydrographic Institute (HI), as one of the laboratories participating in the project to develop European water quality standards (prEN16691, prEN16692, prEN16693 and prEN16694), concerning the determination of priority substances in the implementation of the Water Framework Directive – DQA, was present at a training workshop in Gent, Belgium, through TS Paula Santos and TSB Catarina Rocha.
In this meeting, independent working groups were set up to discuss the specificity of each of the developing norms, and this Institute is involved in the norms prEN16693:2013 (organochlorine pesticides) and prEN16691:2013 (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons).
These standards are intended to meet the requirements of the DQA (Directive 2000/60/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 October) and the Environmental Quality Directive in the field of water policy (Directive 2008/105/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December) and are being prepared by the CEN/TC (European Committee for Standardization / Technical Committee) working groups 230 Water analysis.
The draft European standards require validation of the method by inter-laboratory comparison, so samples will be distributed to participating laboratories in early June, with results submitted in July.
