NRP Admiral Gago Coutinho continues multidisciplinary hydro-oceanographic campaign, between Vieira de Leiria and Ovar
The second phase of the multidisciplinary hydro-oceanographic campaign in which the NRP is engaged is concluded Admiral Gago Coutinho, in which 119 surface sediment sampling stations were carried out at depths between 70 and 500 metres off the Vicentina coast and the south coast of the Algarve, the ship carried out the collection of the oceanic multiparametric buoy of Faro, as part of the maintenance of the coastal ocean monitoring network off the coast of Continental Portugal guaranteed by the Hydrographic Institute.
There is now a new stage of the ongoing hydro-oceanographic mission, in which in addition to the collection of samples of surface sediments from the seabed, the welcome of samples for analysis of microplastics on the water surface is also being carried out.
The current phase runs off the coast between Vieira de Leiria and Ovar, between 15 and 200 meters deep.
