Founded new multiparametric buoy off Sines
On April 29, 2020 a new multiparametric buoy off Sines was merged.
This mission was carried out on board the NRP Admiral Gago Coutinho and involved the garrison of the ship and a technical team of the Hydrographic Institute reinforced with also Navy divers.
The network of multiparametric ocean buoys now has five buoys: one off Leixões, two in the area of Cannon of Nazareth, one off Sines and one off Faro.
It is an ondograph buoy that also monitors meteorological parameters, water temperature, presence of hydrocarbons, ocean surface current and underwater ambient noise. It was driven by the SUBECO project – “Edification of an underwater acoustic surveillance system”, supported by national defense funds.
The merging of this new buoy, 11 years after the founding of the first multiparametric buoy, on April 24, 2009, will enhance the set of coastal ocean monitoring networks off the coast of Continental Portugal (MONIZEE) operated by the Hydrographic Institute and will contribute to significantly improve the forecasts of the future evolution of the coastal ocean state, which are essential in support of marine missions or the dissemination of products intended for sea users.
The data issued by this buoy in real time are already available on this website of the Hydrographic Institute.
