Navy Service Member Honored at International Congress
Sub-Lieutenant Tiago Gouveia Andrade, currently serving at the Hydrographic Institute, was awarded the Young Researcher Poster Award during the 5th edition of the Mediterranean Plant Conservation Week, held in Cyprus.
A native of Funchal, Sub-Lieutenant Gouveia Andrade holds a degree in Biology from the University of Madeira and a Master’s degree in Biodiversity and Plant Biotechnology from the University of Coimbra. His master’s thesis, titled “Morphology and Taxonomy in Musschia aurea (L.f.) Dumort. (Campanulaceae)”, was developed at the Madeira Botany Group (GBM), where he is also a researcher.
His work stood out for the identification of a new endemic subspecies of Madeira’s flora, proposing the recognition of a new taxon to science: Musschia aurea subsp. angustifolia.
