Signature of Memorandum of Understanding between the AIR Centre and the IH

A cooperation protocol between the Atlantic International Research Centre (AIR Centre) and the IH was signed at the Hydrographic Institute (IH) today. This signature was witnessed by Admiral CEMA, Admiral Mendes Calado, National Defense Minister, Prof. Doctor João Gomes Cravinho, and the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. Doctor Manuel Hector.

The AIR Centre (www.aircentre. org) based in Terceira Island, Azores, is an international cooperation network of entities interested in the Atlantic Ocean, extending from Norway to South Africa, linking more and more countries and institutions. It aims to share advanced knowledge about space, atmosphere, ocean, climate change and energy.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by Prof. Dr Joaquin Hernández Brito, CEO of the AIR Centre, and Rear Admiral Carlos Ventura Soares, Director General of the IH. The Ministers of Science, Technology and Higher Education and National Defense had the opportunity to reaffirm, in their interventions, the importance of this memorandum of understanding for science, defense, environment and economy.
