Member of the Hydrographic Institute Defends PhD Thesis

The Senior Technician Carlos Borges, from the Marine Chemistry and Pollution Division of the Hydrographic Institute (IH), defended his PhD thesis titled "Optimized Metrological and Geochemical Assessment of Trends in Estuarine and Oceanic Systems" on January 23rd, at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL).

The research presented was co-supervised by Professor Ricardo Bettencourt da Silva from FCUL and Dr. Carla Palma from IH. It developed an innovative methodology for the objective assessment (i.e., with known uncertainty) of variations and correlations in the composition of vast environmental systems.

The jury was composed of Professors João Silva, José Nogueira, Ricardo Bettencourt da Silva, and Dr. Cristina Oliveira, all from FCUL, along with Dr. Ana Lillebø from the University of Aveiro, Professor Marco Silva from the New University of Lisbon, and Professor João Canário from the Instituto Superior Técnico.
