Interview of oceanographer João Vitorino in the report on giant waves of Nazareth

The presence of one of the largest submarine valleys in Europe, the Nazaré Submarine Cannon, is responsible for the generation of the well-known Nazaré Giant Waves, an attraction for surfing worldwide.

The Hydrographic Institute (HI) has a monitoring network on the state of the sea and knowledge of the forecast of conditions of maritime agitation, including these waves. This capacity of the IH has aroused interest in the surf community by motivating the development of IH products aimed at supporting surfing at national level (http://www.hydrografico.pt/prev.surf) and in particular for the area of Nazareth (http://monican.hydrografico.pt/).

The oceanographer João Vitorino directs studies in the IH in the area of the Submarine Cannon of Nazareth having become an expert in this area. He recently participated in an interview about the giant waves of Nazareth that we share here.
