Hydrographic Institute participates in Open Conventos 2025

The Hydrographic Institute (IH) once again joined the Open Conventos 2025 programme, opening to the public the classified area of the former Convent of the Trinas, where it held two guided tours coordinated by the IH Documentation and Culture Division and accompanied by specialists from the Olisiponenses Studies Office.

Promoted by the Cultural Heritage Department of Lisbon City Council, in collaboration with Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa, the Quo Vadis project of the Patriarchate of Lisbon, and with the support of the Institute of Art History of NOVA University Lisbon, this initiative aims to highlight and promote the city’s religious and architectural heritage.

This year’s edition also included an exchange moment: a delegation from the Hydrographic Institute visited the Convent of the Cardaes, in Bairro Alto. This 17th-century building, originally founded as a cloistered convent, shares several affinities with the former Convent of the Trinas, particularly the estilo chão — austere on the outside and richly decorated within — characteristic of Portuguese and Iberian Baroque.
