The Hydrographic Institute (IH) took part, on 17 January, in the Aquarium Conference, held at the Ílhavo Maritime Museum.
This participation included a presentation by Senior Technician Catarina Rocha, from the IH Division of Chemistry and Marine Environmental Pollution, entitled “Oil Spills: The Impact of Petroleum Discharges”. The presentation aimed to highlight the serious consequences of marine oil pollution events, emphasizing their impacts on ecosystems and on human activities dependent on the sea.
In addition to its scientific focus, the session also sought to raise public awareness of the importance of prevention, human accountability and the adoption of good practices that contribute to the protection of the marine environment.
The Hydrographic Institute’s participation reinforces its commitment to scientific outreach and to promoting ocean literacy within society.
