Hydrographic Institute receives visit from Spelman College

The Hydrographic Institute received yesterday a group of students from Spelman College, a higher education institution in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The group, mostly formed by young women and accompanied by the company "Culinary Backstreets", is in Portugal for a study tour focusing on the theme of gastronomy.

The students showed unusual interest in the spaces of the former convent of the Trinas of Mocambo, in particular for its extraordinary cuisine, for the collections of tiles, for understanding the social condition of the nuns in the context of the old maritime and African neighborhood of West Lisbon.

The guided tour also made it possible to present some emblematic pieces of the Institute's technical-scientific collections as the Kelvin tide forecaster.
