Hydrographic Institute participates in the exercise ATLANTIC POLEX.EN - 2022
The Hydrographic Institute (IH) participated, on the days 3, 4 and 5 May, in Viana do Castelo, in the 2022 edition of the pollution combat exercise ATLANTIC POLEX.PT, organized by the Directorate to Combat Pollution at Sea of the Directorate-General of the Maritime Authority.
This initiative, carried out annually, aims to comply with what is laid down in the Clean Sea Plan, namely to ensure the readiness standards of the means of the National Maritime Authority and other bodies as regards prevention and response operations to a marine pollution incident.
The exercise was attended by two technicians from the IH, one from the Oceanography area, Lieutenant Ana Mateus, and another from the area of Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment, Technical Superior Scholarships (TSB) Pedro Silva, who developed activities consisting in the launch of drift floats, the use of the oceandrift drift model and the monitoring of hydrocarbon sampling operations.
In the context of this event there was also a seminar on the theme “Preservation of the Marine Environment”, with TSB Pedro Silva collaborating as a speaker with the communication “Chemical Analysis: A Fulcral Element in Identification of Origin of Hydrocarbon Pollution”.
