Canary Islands Hydrographic Institute and Ocean Platform launch glider

The Hydrographic Institute, with the support of the NRP Andromeda, launched last week a glider (autonomous vehicle without its own propulsion) of the Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) in the framework of collaboration between both institutions, off Cape Espichel.

The glider will collect oceanographic data autonomously and send them to land by satellite for about two months in the Submarine Cannon of Setúbal, in partnership with the iFado project, integrated into the PAAnoramic mission.
