Hydrographic Institute collaborates in international ocean observation project
The Portuguese Navy Hydrographic Institute (IH) recently received a visit from the representative of the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency of Germany, Bundesamt für Seeschifffahrt und Hydrographie (BSH), Meike Martins.
During this visit, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the IH and BSH under the Argo programme was formalised (https://www.bsh.de/EN/TOPICS/Monitoring_systems/Argo_floats/argo_floats_node).
The main objective of this MoU is to allow the Hydrographic Institute to coordinate the launch of floaters Argo from the Portuguese Navy ships, giving important support to the program's mission: to maintain a network of 4000 floats watching the global ocean.
In addition to the formalization of the MoU, Meike Martins' visit contemplated a training action, which allowed IH employees to acquire relevant technical skills to autonomously support the launch of Argo floaters.
