Hydrographic Institute is distinguished in international underwater imaging competition - 2024

The Hydrographic Institute (IH), through the Azinheira Hydrographic Brigade (BHA), was distinguished in the Kongsberg Maritime Subsea Bathymetric Photo Contest. The image submitted by the Hydrographic Brigade is among the top 12 that will be included in the 2025 calendar.

Called Breakwater at Port Sines (Lidar vs SMF), the image features a batimetric model created from data acquired by a multi-beam probe, in a hydrographic survey carried out by BHA in the east jetty of the Port of Sines. We highlight the high resolution of the acquired data, which allows to define with high precision the location and shape of the submerged antifer cubes, responsible for the external protection of the jetty, thus complementing the information collected from the emerged part of the jetty, captured by an aerial LiDAR system.

The Breakwater at Port Sines (Lidar vs SMF) image was chosen to illustrate the month in the calendar distributed internationally by Kongsberg Discovery.
