Opening of the exhibition in honor of Valm Ernesto de Vasconcelos

As part of the program of the celebrations of the 84th anniversary of the death of Vice Admiral EH Ernesto Júlio de Carvalho and Vasconcelos, promoted by the Núcleo de Ex-Marinheiros do Conselho de Almeirim, it was held on 13 October 2014 in the Municipal Library of that city, the inauguration of an exhibition of allusive homage to this distinguished Almeirinense, and distinguished Officer of the Navy, whose history of life noted him as a figure of great technical and scientific prestige in the field of hydrography, oceanography and cartography, as well as in the public administration, particularly in the Geography Society of Lisbon, where he developed hard work in the areas of cartography and geography of the former overseas territories.
The ceremony, chaired by the Mayor of Almeirim, Pedro Miguel Ribeiro, was attended by the Alderman of Culture, President of the Board of Freguesy of Almeirim, President of the Nucleus of former sailors of Almeirim, and other members of that Association, having also been present, representing the Navy and the Hydrographic Institute (IH), the CMG Ova Correia, of the IH Documentation Directorate.
The exhibition, containing hydrography and topography work equipment used at the time, and a set of “posters” highlighting the life of the honored naval officer, professor, statesman and politician, was later visited by all present, who mostly did not know the life and work of this figure of our recent history, who so well knew how to transform their intelligence and knowledge, into important benefits for the country and for peace.
