IH recovers structure with instrumentation for acoustic current measurement
On May 21, 2020, the IH Oceanography team recovered an instrumentation structure for acoustic current measurement (ADCP’s), which was lost since September 2019 at S. Torpes beach in Sines.
During the SEDMAR campaign, aboard the NRP Auriga, members of the Marine Geology Division detected the structure with the lateral sonar. Its position was further measured with greater precision with the multi-beam probe of the Hydrographic Brigade, which was at the site of a hydrographic survey.
Given that the structure was partially buried, only with the use of DMS2 divers and with the support of CMSH nurses, it was possible to recover the structure safely, thanks to the means provided by the NRP Auriga and the Maritime Instrumentation Center that made their way to the site.
