IH participates in the initial meeting of the EMODnet Lot 4 - Chemistry project
The start-up meeting of the EMODnet Lot 4 - Chemistry was held in Trieste, Italy, from 3 to 5 June 2013. About 70 scientists from almost all partner institutions of the Project participated in the meeting. This project, funded by the European Union, with the aim of developing an information portal on marine chemical properties, brings together 46 institutions (32 partners and 14 subcontractors) from 35 countries. The IH represents Portugal in this Project, having the meeting with the presence of the TS Carlos Borges, of the Division of Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment.
The various topics on the agenda of the meeting included the evaluation of the work carried out in the Pilot Project (which took place between 2009 and 2011) and the definition of the tasks to be carried out during the duration of this Project, namely the tasks and responsibilities of the different partners, the interaction between the different working groups (workpackages), and the timing of the various tasks. One of the most long-discussed issues – because it is essential to make the data accessible to the general public – has focused on the homogenisation of the information already available or to be made available by the various partners.
A first version of the portal is expected to be operational and ready to be tested within one year.
