IH participates in the second Assembly and the Council of OHI

The 2nd Assembly (https://iho.int/en/iho-assembly) of the International Hydrographic Organization (OHI), in videoconferencing format due to the COVID19 pandemic, and 65 Member States participated.
The following events are highlighted on the agenda:

  • Financial Committee, the report of accounts has been approved and the budgetary plan submitted for the next three years;
  • Report and plan of activities of the IHO Council ;
  • review of several decisions taken by electronic vote in recent months;
  • Approval of the strategic plan for 2021-2026 (https://iho.int/uploads/user/About%20IHO/strategic%20plan%20summary%208.5x11%20-%2017nov20.pdf) ;
  • Reports and plans of activities of the two main committees (Interregional Coordination Committee and the Hydrographic Standards and Services Committee).

In terms of innovation, the plan to implement the new S-100 services and products for the period 2023-2030 stands out, including new electronic cartography products. In the context of the training of hydrographic services, it is highlighted the creation of an E-Learning centre supported by OHI, to be established in the Republic of Korea.
All usual disclosure and exhibition activities during the Assembly were postponed to 21 June 2021 when the 100th anniversary of OHI in Monaco was celebrated.
On November 20, there was another annual meeting of the IHO Council, which generally coordinates the activities of the organization in the period between Assemblies, within its powers and tasks assigned to the Assembly. The Council consists of 30 Member States, 10 of which are allocated to the countries with the highest tonnage and the rest to the Regional Hydrographic Commissions. It should be noted that the Director-General of the IH is part of the current council because he is President of the Regional Hydrographic Commission of the East Atlantic.
