commemorative session MONICAN-10 years of monitoring of the Cannon of Nazareth
Pioneer in Portugal for the placement of a multiparameter buoy with real-time transmission, the Hydrographic Institute (IH) today, May 7, received the commemorative session “MONICAN - 10 YEARS MONITORING NAZARÉ CANHAN”.
Financing under the EEA programme Grants 2004-2009 this project took place between 2008 and 2011 and had as partners the Hydrographic Institute, the Municipality of Nazaré and the SINTEF (Norway).
In addition to evoking the MONICAN project, the session also aimed to recall and strengthen its lasting and significant impacts, both for the area of Nazareth, as for the knowledge of the Portuguese coastal ocean; and the potential for future development that arises from it.
Mr. Ambassador of Norway to Portugal, Anders Erdal, Dr. Walter Chicharro, President of the Chamber of Nazareth, and Dr. Sandra Silva, Director of Programming Services of the Directorate-General for Maritime Policy, were present.
Dr. João Vitorino, an oceanographer of the IH, also presented the talk “MONICAN – a project with lasting seeds. Future impacts and prospects in the 10 years of activity.”
