Hydrographic cooperation between Portugal and Spain

As part of the hydrographic collaboration project between the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute and the Instituto Hidrographic de la Marina de Spain, a joint hydrographic exercise involving two hydrographic vessels from Spain and one from Portugal was carried out between May 15 and 17.

Taking advantage of the transit that Spanish hydrographic vessels “Antares” and “Tofiño” are carrying out from the south to the northern part of Spain, an exercise was carried out with the NRP “Admiral Gago Coutinho”, with the aim of comparing the hydrographic capacity of the respective multi-beam probe systems and the sharing of methodologies and procedures in the field of the processing of the baptismal data.

After the mission, the ships docked at the Lisbon Naval Base where a technical meeting was held between the hydrographers.

On May 19, a delegation of ship representatives made a visit to the Hydrographic Institute.

This hydrographic collaboration project aims, in the spirit proclaimed by the International Hydrographic Organization, to intensify the collaboration between the Hydrographic Institutes of Portugal and Spain by promoting the sharing of knowledge, methodologies, procedures and information, with a view to further development of their hydrographic capabilities combined with resource optimization.
