Hidrographic Survey Lisbon Naval Base and Alfeite Channel

The Hydrographic Brigade conducted a hydrographic survey at the Lisbon Naval Base (BNL) and Alfeite channel between February 12 and March 2. This work covered the survey of the access channel to the BNL, its manoeuvring basin and its docking docks.

This work assumes particular relevance, since the Lisbon Naval Base is presented as the only military naval base in Continental Portugal and because it is an “inner base”, that is, a base without direct access to the ocean. It is therefore necessary to ensure the monitoring and evaluation of the batimetric evolution in order to ensure that the means of communication with the open sea are free from obstacles and with appropriate depths to ensure the entry and exit of the ships into their different missions.

This survey was conducted using the UAM Atlanta equipped with the EM3002 multi-beam probe system in the area of the Alfeite channel and the Gaivota waterboat, equipped with the latest EM2040C multi-beam probe system, in the areas of the basin and manoeuvring quay, whose high capacity for data acquisition of high quality allows to generate high resolution batimetric models, as well as object detection models, allowing a detailed image of the background of the probed area.

In this mission, two hydrographers participated, one equipment maintenance technician two boat owners, as well as the UAM garrison Atlanta.

A total of 171.01 km was carried out in a row and an area of 1.55 km2 was probed, ensuring a special survey, according to the international standards in force.
