Posse Take Ceremony of the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute - 2015
It is held on November 19, 2015, at 4:00 p.m., the inauguration ceremony of the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear Admiral António Manuel de Carvalho Coelho Cândido, in place of Rear Admiral José Luis Branco Seabra de Melo.
The ceremony will be chaired by the Chief of Staff of the Navy and National Maritime Authority, Admiral Luís Manuel Fourneaux Macieira Fragoso.
Rear Admiral António Manuel de Carvalho Coelho Cândido is 54 years old and 37 years of service, being a graduate of Naval Military Sciences, Marine Course.
He began his career as an immediate officer of the patrol ship Cuanza and, after completing his specialization in Eletrotecnia, served as head of the service of arms and electronics, in frigate Roberto Ivens.
Between 1989 and 1990, he attended courses in the arms systems of the Vasco da Gama class frigates, having been on board Álvares Cabral (1991/1994) and Vasco da Gama (1996/1998).
From 1999 to 2001 he commanded Corvette João Roby, with two four-month commissions in the Azores Maritime Zone and a monitoring mission in the North Atlantic under the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission.
On land he was Head of the Arms and Electronics Service of the Oceanic Escort Squadron and at the Ships Directorate he headed the Detection and Navigation Systems Divisions and Communications Systems, Command and Control.
In December 2003 he was appointed Deputy Captain of Porto de Lisboa, a position he held until March 2006. In these functions it followed the implementation of the safety plans for port terminals in Porto de Lisboa, within the framework of the new security requirements laid down by the SOLAS Convention.
From May 2006 to October 2009, he served as Commander of the Madeira Maritime Zone, Head of Madeira Maritime Department, Captain of Funchal Port, Captain of Porto de Porto Santo and Regional and Local Commander of the Maritime Police.
In October 2011, he took office as Head of the Maritime Department of the Centre, Captain of the Port of Lisbon and Regional and Local Commander of the Maritime Police, positions he held until he was appointed interim Commander of the Maritime Zone of the Azores and Head of the Maritime Department of the Azores, where he remained until he was promoted to the post of Rear Admiral, and where he was in office until November 13, 2015.
It has, among others, the General and Complementary Naval Courses of War, the Tactical and Naval Operations Course, the Civil Emergency Planning Course, the National Defense Course and the Promotion Course to the General Officer.
Its service record contains several praises and decorations.
