Garrett McNamara decorated by the Portuguese Navy at the Hydrographic Institute
On July 29, at the Noble Hall Pedro Nunes of the Hydrographic Institute, the Imposition Ceremony with the Naval Medal of Vasco da Gama to Mr Garrett McNamara, by the Chief of Staff of the Armada.
This award was granted as a result of his extraordinary career as a surfer, marked by performances of excellence, full of successes, and the example of discipline, perseverance, sacrifice and high professionalism, contributing significantly to the promotion and dissemination of the Navy and Portugal.
At the end of the Garrett McNamara Ceremony he thanked the Portuguese Navy and in particular the Hydrographic Institute for their collaboration in predicting the occurrence of giant waves, without which he would not have achieved the feat of surfing, on November 1, 2011, the giant wave on the North Beach.
