First sampling and data collection mission for the project AQUIMAR - 2018 - 1st Mission
The Hydrographic Institute initiated the first sampling and data collection mission for the AQUIMAR – Marine Knowledge Supporting Aquaculture project.
This project aims to characterize oceanographic, physicochemical, geochemical and biological conditions to optimize the selection of sites for the implementation of aquaculture units, and the energy efficiency of cultivated species, as well as to evaluate the feasibility of introducing new species of cultivation and estimated production capacity of each site, being funded by the Mar2020 Program.
The mission began with the collection of sediment samples aboard the NRP Auriga off the coast of the Algarve, and will extend until November 4 covering the entire coast of Continental Portugal with the collection of water and sediment samples aboard the NRP Admiral Gago Coutinho.
