Exercise The Earth Trembles

For the national financial year The Earth Tremble organized annually by the Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) which aims to alert and raise awareness to the population about how to act before, during and after the occurrence of an earthquake, several actions were carried out at the Hydrographic Institute (HI) such as, the disclosure to all personnel of preventive and emergency procedures to be adopted in case of earthquake and an earthquake simulacrum followed by tsunami in the Hydrographic Base (HB) of this Institute, a zone more exposed to this risk.

The national exercise this year included the practice of three simple gestures who can make a difference to who practices them in the face of an earthquake: LOWER, PROTECT, HOLD ON.

In the case of the simulation in BH, the respective simulation has been activated. Internal Emergency Plan In the face of earthquake emergence followed by tsunami, with the activation of evacuation teams.

This simulation has enabled the training of procedures for this type of emergency, particularly at the level of self-protection and evacuation. The overall assessment was positive, with the staff acting in a committed and serious manner, the evacuation orderly stands out to the meeting point at BH near Heliport.

It is important to mention that the practice of these exercises helps to identify improvements in order to strengthen the capacity of the HI, in particular and this time in the HB to act properly in case of real emergency.
