Documentary on the Deep Sea

The Madeira Ocean Observatory produced a documentary on the oceanographic campaign that took place in 2018, aboard the NRP "Admiral Gago Coutinho".

This documentary “Ao Beira do Mar Profundo” depicts the scientific work carried out by a vast technical-scientific team using cutting-edge technology for exploring the abyssal plains adjacent to the island.

During the mission, deep and unknown areas of the Madeira Sea were explored and one of the greatest scientific discoveries of recent times in the region - the observation and collection of corals of cold waters to the depth of approximately 2000 m, on the shores of the underwater cannon of Ribeira Brava.

The premiere of this documentary was June 12, 2020, at RTP International Europe and RTP International America. On 13 June it will be broadcast at RTP International Asia, at 9:45 am.

During October 12 and 13, 2020, the documentary will be on display at the MIPCOM (International Market for Communication Programs) in Cannes, France.

This oceanographic campaign and its documentary was funded by the M1420-0145-FEDER-000001-Ocean Observatory of Madeira-OOM.
