Director-General of the European Union Military Staff visits the IH
On May 15, the Director General of the European Union Military Staff, Lieutenant General Esa Pulkkienen, was received at the Hydrographic Institute (IH). The welcome was given by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armada, Vice Admiral Novo Palma.
The aim of the visit was to know the capabilities of the IH in the service of the Navy, the scientific community and other organisations, including the European Union. Special attention was paid to the GEOMETOC Centre of Excellence, which develops diverse products of operational interest in the geospatial, meteorological and oceanographic areas.
The European Union Military Staff shall work under the direction of the Military Committee and under the authority of the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security of the European Union. It mainly carries out early warning functions, situation assessment, strategic planning, communication provision and information systems, concept development, training and training and partnership support.
