LiDAR Data from the Directorate-General for Territory Now Available

The data resulting from the airborne LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) altimetric survey campaign carried out by the Directorate-General for Territory (DGT) throughout 2024, under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), is now available. The Hydrographic Institute was represented by Mrs. Ana Leonor Veiga at the project’s presentation session held on April 29 of this year.

This technology enables the acquisition of high-precision three-dimensional information about the Earth's surface, including natural terrain, vegetation, and built structures. It is particularly useful in areas such as coastal monitoring, natural hazard management, spatial planning, and cartographic updating.

The new coverage spans the entire mainland territory and is available in two formats: point cloud (LAS/LAZ) with an average density of 10 points/m², and Digital Terrain and Surface Models (GeoTIFF), with spatial resolutions of 50 cm and 2 m.

The data can be accessed and downloaded free of charge from the following platforms:
