The last phase of the mission in the Madeira archipelago has been completed
Since May 6, a technical team from the Hydrographic Institute has been on board the ship NRP Admiral Gago Coutinho to carry out a mission in the area of the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
In the first two phases of the mission, monitoring of the sands on the southern coast of Madeira and mapping of marine sediments on the north coast of Porto Santo was carried out.
Then, between May 25 and 27, the ship moved to the Savages, with two biologists from CIIMAR Porto for the sighting of cetaceans and students from the University of Madeira in the framework of a study visit.
Finally, as early as 28th, the structures were collected to obtain oceanographic data and there was also an opportunity to receive on board the visit of the Madeira Maritime Zone Commander, to accompany the Regional Secretary for Environment and Natural Resources, and a team of two journalists from RTP Madeira to collect images and interviews with a view to conducting a documentary.
After more than 430 hours of navigation and 600 hours of mission the ship is now in transit, heading for the Lisbon Naval Base.
